    "It's been a nice ride..."

"...but now I'm gonna have to shoot your horse"...

You know I dont even know if anyone out there still reads this dinosaur of a blog anymore, but if you do and you've been waiting for a post I do apologize for the lack of notification that I will no longer be blogging. Well at least for now, and at least not as Jake Commando.

So, this is my official sign off from this blog, and should I return I will certainly let all of you know. As for an update on my life... Well, I officially donned the Green Beret in April of this year after finishing language school successfully in Arabic, and then completing the final training exercise known as Robin Sage. I've been assigned to 5th Special Forces Group at Ft. Campbell, KY and am looking forward to joining my new team and deploying ASAP. All is well.

I will still continue to receive email at the address on this site, so feel free to keep in touch. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the great debates, and getting to know all of you. I will continue to read your blogs when I can, but as you know, my time is no longer my own.

    Your truly,
    Jake Commando

be well, stay safe, and thank you for working so hard to keep all of US well... and safe. you've done your country proud, young man. and i, for one, salute you.

know that you WILL be missed. that said, would it be that much of a bother to drop us a line now and again?? (i'll try to do the same) ; ) xox

    Hey Jake--

I'm with Jenna--it was a nice surprise to see this in the rss feed.

We finally have CrossFit up here and I've made the transition to it full time. Makes me wonder what I was doing all those years in the gym. Now if I can only get through Arabic and Farsi....

Congratulations, best of luck and thank you for your service.

Its been strange reading through your blog, esp. the cross-fit stuff. My ex is starting the Q course July 9th and we were together three years- best friends/training buddies. I even got a laugh out of the Mother Army comment at the end of the blog b/c when he left me I just kept thinking I was being replaced by what I referred to as "Mistress Military" I hope its all worth the sacrifice. From my end it *sounds* fantastic but sometimes I wonder if the sacrifices you will make during your career is worth the b.s. I guess you won't know until you get there. Best of luck to ya.

jenna- thank you, and best wishes to you as well.

sweet neva- muchas gracias you old soul. yes, i'll stop by and say hola now and again when i can. thanks so much for all your encouraging words, and tell Robin hello for me. :)

sully- almost done man. i know its been a long road, keep on keeping on... it's all worth it. see you downrange

pam- bout time with that Crossfit stuff. i love saying this... "I told you so!" :P keep in touch.

kelly- im sorry for your loss. sacrifice... yes, that about sums it up. i dont know if its all worth it, but i do think about it all the time. my only desire other than doing what im doing now is to have my own family. that seems to be a difficult task in this line of work, but i think im up for it - Lord willing. marriage is an elite club for selfless people... and military marriage cant even be put into words. god help us all.

Wow years later I stumble on this...I am actually taking the SF contract and was hoping for some advice from you. Your posts have been very enlightening as I have trained to prepare. If you find any spare time I would deeply appreciate some advice or counsel for a SF recruit to be...and hopefully not just the "you can do it!!!" I have been getting...practical advice is what I seem to be lacking.

Why did you stop the blog? You should have kept it going while going through basic and schools after. It would have been a good read for kids interested in seeing if the Army was a fit for them.
